On April 18, 2009, UC Berkeley welcomed admitted students and their
families to the campus to learn about departments, majors, and
extracurricular activities available to students. CalDay is a chance for
students to collect the information they need to make the right choice of
college for them.
IASTP offered a table for passersby to stop, greet staff, peer advisors,
and students from a variety of our majors. Interested students and
families were encouraged to have their questions answered, as well as to
contact the program in the near future were more questions to arise.
Fliers
and other promotional materials were made available, as well as textbooks
from IASTP courses for students to browse.
In addition, about 150 people attended our Going Global: International
Opportunities for Cal Students panel where five IASTP graduating seniors
discussed their experiences in their majors, the Global Poverty and
Practice Minor, and study abroad. The audience was eager with a variety of
questions and the students were excited to share anecdotes from their time
at Cal. Discussions continued to flow after the panel had ended as a few
of our current and prospective students decided to continue the discussion
about college choice over coffee on Telegraph Avenue.
