Emily Gottreich
Professor Gottreich is co-Chair of the Middle Eastern Studies major and Vice Chair of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, as well as Associate Adjunct Professor in the Department of History and in IASTP/MES. Though trained as a historian of North Africa, with a focus on Morocco, she enjoys struggling with the interdisciplinarity of Area Studies. She currently teaches the undergraduate methods course in Middle Eastern Studies (MES 102), and the seminar "Jews and Muslims," cross-listed between History and MES. Her research interests include Muslim-Jewish relations, cities in the Middle East and North Africa, Moroccan society, and constructions of Sephardic, Mizrahi, and Arab Jewish identity. But most importantly, she got her B.A. in Middle Eastern Studies from UC Berkelely!
