Important Notes for Faculty Sponsoring DeCal courses
in the IAS Teaching Program
DeCal Course Policy
You do not have to be teaching in one of the IAS program.
Lecturers, to be faculty sponsors for DeCal courses, must sign a waiver
of compensation.
At least one student initiator must be a declared major in the sponsoring
program.
The course must receive approval of the program chair in addition to
your sponsorship.
The request to offer the course must reach the Director of Programs
and Administration prior to the IAS deadline date to be eligible. The
deadline for a Fall semester offering is May 1; the deadline for Spring
is October 15.
Courses requested for a second offering are generally not approved. Should
you wish to support a second offering of the same course, justification
to do so is required and should be submitted with the application.
DeCal courses are limited to 30 students.
Once the course is scheduled, you have approved the syllabus and students
begin enrolling in the course, you may do the following so that the student
initiator(s) can manage the electronic communications with the students. You
are not required to permit access but should you choose to do so please
read the following:
The following is the official process to grant access to
an undergraduate De-Cal instructor in bSpace:
- The faculty or staff sponsor creates the bSpace site
- In Site Info, the faculty or staff sponsor adds the undergraduate
instructor as a participant to the site and grants that student instructor
the Head GSI or Instructor role
- The student instructor then logs in to bSpace and clicks the tab
for the course site. The class list information is visible from the
Roster tool.
Any support requests regarding this process can be sent to
the following e-mail:
