Alumni Activities and Information

Join our IASTP Alumni Community

Several years ago we launched our new website and it has been a work in progress ever since. Our newest additions are an email address specifically dedicated to alumni and an unmoderated list serve.

Contact us by email at iastpalums@berkeley.edu to update your contact information, just say “hello”, let us know what you are up to, ask a question, inform us when you may be visiting or let us know you are now a CAL parent.

The list serve is meant to facilitate communication between us and you. There have been a number of times we wished we could tell you about some of the things we have been up to and now we can. It can also be used by you to communicate with old colleagues and talk about new ideas or up-coming events related to what our students study.

You may subscribe to the list by sending a message to iastpalums@berkeley.edu with your full name, date of graduation, program, and the email address where you want list communications to be sent.

As part of our new initiatives, we invite you to join our network of IASTP Alumni who are working in diverse professions and making a difference throughout the world. As part of our IASTP Alumni Community, you have the opportunity to network and socialize with IASTP alumni of all ages who share your interests, scholarship, and loyalty to Cal.

We hope you will bookmark our IASTP home page and look at it often for announcements of new initiatives, current activities, and profiles on students, faculty, and of course, our alumni.

Currently Featured Alumni

Daniel Spitzer (Development Studies '81), an entrepreneur/investor in China (in photo at left) has been a cornerstone in our Alumni Career Panel initiative. Daniel recently approached IAS with the idea of starting a program where alumni could offer career advice to current students in a more personal setting. He visited us in February 2007 to inaurgurate this initiative. Peace and Conflict Studies major Louise Ryder said she "loved meeting with Daniel Spitzer to discuss international career focuses, particularly in China, an area I am extremely interested in."

Kevin Johnson ( '87), NBA All-Star and founder of St. Hope Academy http://www.sthope.com/ (photographed with students at right) met with students to provide insight and advice on careers in community service. He shared his story of founding St. Hope and the value he places on giving back to his community through education and economic development. He encouraged students to go out and use their knowledge and skills to effect change.
